Ancient Churches Lexicon Entry:

Flood

Back to: Lexicon Index | Lexicon Home

There was no actual flood that covered the earth (AC 755). The Flood actually represents the Last Judgment of the Most Ancient Church. After it perished, a new church, the Ancient Church, was created (AC 1850). This judgment was described as a flood because the people at the end of the Most Ancient Church were of such a disposition that they could no longer store or use remnants (AC 562, AC 563). And when the way for remnants is closed, that person can no longer be protected by angels, and is totally possessed by evil spirits. When this happens, the influx of fantasies and desires from evil spirits is like a flood, causing the person to suffocate (AC 660, AC 560).

When the Most Ancient Church expired, a new church followed that was of a spiritual disposition instead of a celestial disposition, and their seed changed from a celestial seed to a spiritual seed (AC 200, AC 310). But this new church had to go through many temptations before its people could become truly spiritual (AC 605). These temptations and vastations are described historically in the Word as a flood, in the manner of the most ancient people (AC 739).
