Medium:Glass negative
Description: Lawrence Saint (1885-1961), a glass painter who lived in Huntingdon Valley (a town neighboring Bryn Athyn), introduced himself to Raymond Pitcairn in 1917, and was hired as part of the studio. He stayed on for eleven years, during which he completed six stained glass windows for Bryn Athyn Cathedral. In 1928 he left to become director of the glass studio at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. He later wrote, “I am profoundly grateful for what I learned about stained glass from Mr. Pitcairn at Bryn Athyn. John Pitcairn, his father, was president of the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co. and Mr Pitcairn has glass in his blood. I feel Raymond Pitcairn has never received the just appreciation for what he has done for the stained glass in America” (Saint, Lawrence. The Romance of Stained Glass. Huntingdon Valley, Pa.,  p. 11).  “Ewald, Saint & ?” written on the envelope.
