Description: Winfred Hyatt (1891-1959), the principal stained glass artist for Bryn Athyn Cathedral and Glencairn, produced hundreds of original cartoons and sketches, and did most of the glass painting on the final windows. He also designed mosaics for Glencairn, and is here shown working on the white peacock mosaic in Glencairn’s “bird room.” According to Lachlan Pitcairn, son of Raymond Pitcairn, Hyatt was able to see the white peacocks of Cairnwood through the window of his stained glass studio in Cairnwood’s garden house. He proposed the idea of a white peacock mosaic to Raymond Pitcairn, who agreed (Pitcairn, Lachlan. Interview with Ed Gyllenhaal. Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania, April 2006). Hyatt was involved in the Bryn Athyn stained glass project from its inception before World War I until his death in 1959.
